Expanding production capacity to support growing
AI- and cloud-driven demand for high-capacity data center storage
LAGUNA, Philippines, Oct. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba Information Equipment (Philippines), Inc. ("TIP"), a hard disk drive manufacturing company of Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation, today marked its 30th anniversary with a commemorative ceremony attended by approximately 250 guests, including representatives of the Philippine government, suppliers, business partners, and local community stakeholders in Manila.
Today also marked an important milestone in TIP's continued development in the Philippines. At its Laguna Technopark ("LTI") facility, the company recently began manufacturing nearline hard disk drives ("nearline HDDs"), expanding production beyond its Carmelray Industrial Park facility, and made the first shipment of products manufactured on the newly expanded production line. Nearline HDDs are high-capacity data center HDDs designed to support AI and cloud workloads. The expansion of production at LTI supports growing global demand for high-capacity data center storage driven by the rapid adoption of AI and cloud services.

TIP began operations on October 1, 1996, as a manufacturing facility for 2.5-inch* HDDs for personal computers. In 2001, it expanded its operations to include the production of 1.8-inch* HDDs. Over the past three decades, TIP has become an important part of the Toshiba Group's global HDD manufacturing network, supplying HDDs manufactured in the Philippines to customers around the world.
As worldwide demand for data center storage continues to grow, Toshiba has been investing to expand HDD manufacturing capacity. TIP has strengthened its nearline HDD manufacturing capabilities at its LTI facility, which previously focused primarily on HDDs for personal computers. TIP will continue to invest in production expansion, aiming to nearly double its annual production capacity by FY2027 compared with FY2025 on a storage capacity basis.
Building on 30 Years of Partnership and Contribution
"TIP's development over the past 30 years has been made possible by the dedication of our employees, and the continued support of our business partners, local communities, and the Philippine government," said Kenichi Myokan, President & Representative Director, Toshiba Information Equipment (Philippines) Inc.
"The first shipment from our expanded nearline HDD production line marks an important milestone for TIP. As the Toshiba Group's HDD manufacturing site, we will continue to support the data infrastructure required in the AI era while contributing to the development of the Philippine economy. "
Alongside its business growth, TIP has continued to contribute to the development of the Philippine economy by exporting HDDs manufactured in the Philippines to customers worldwide. In recognition of its outstanding export performance, TIP received the Billionaire's Award at the PEZA Excellence Awards for five consecutive years from 2019 to 2023. These achievements reflect Toshiba's long-standing presence in the Philippines and its continued contribution to the country's manufacturing and export sectors.
Investing in People, Communities and Sustainable Manufacturing
To support future business growth, TIP will continue to invest in recruiting and developing talent, particularly for engineering and technical staff. Through the continued development of local capabilities and technical expertise, the company aims to build the workforce required to support the next phase of its manufacturing operations. The company will also continue its corporate social responsibility initiatives, including educational support programs and environmental conservation activities, while maintaining close engagement with local communities.
TIP remains committed to sustainable manufacturing through operations based on internationally recognized standards covering quality, environmental management, occupational health and safety, business continuity, and energy management. In 2026, the company obtained ISO 50001 certification for its energy management system, further strengthening its framework for continuous energy efficiency improvement.
As the Toshiba Group manufacturing site for HDDs, TIP aims to support the data infrastructure required in the AI era while remaining committed to contributing to the continued development of the Philippine economy. In conjunction with its 30th anniversary, TIP will participate in the Philippine-based PSECE 2026 Exhibition, where it will showcase its manufacturing capabilities, technological expertise and long-standing contributions to the Philippine electronics industry. The exhibition will be held from 26 to 28 October 2026 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
